WOLVERINES #1 or #2 DEPENDING ON OUTCOME OF SHOCK GAME prediction by RMFL
UTAH WOLVERINES (6-1): Obviously, by listing the Wolverines first, I am predicting that they will hold serve against the visiting Shock on Saturday and grab the #1 seed. That, however, is no foregone conclusion.  The game sets up as a great battle between the league’s top two quarterbacks, Jordan Kjar of the Shock and Charlie Peterson of the Wolverines and although, the Shock offense has proven more potent overall, I think that the Wolverines have a weapon in Joe Mapson, that the Shock may have difficulty finding an aswer for.  Further, the Wolverines defense has proven to be a bit better all year.  With the Salt Lake Seminoles looking to forfeit their final game against Bear River, it also takes away any possibility of the Shock losing and dropping further than #2.  If the Seminoles had beaten Bear River and Pocatello had beaten Idaho Falls, the Shock could have fallen behind Pocatello via the points allowed tie-breaker (SOS would likely be even).  As it is… winner is #1 and loser is #2.  Wolverines are home… and they have Mapson.  PREDICTION: Defeat the Shock 35-31 and get the #1 seed.

WOLVERINES DEMORALIZE SEMINOLES IN 48-6 WIN
(Draper, UT)
The Utah Wolverines are atop the RMFL AAA in a virtual tie with the Shock.  To win the regular season championship, they will have to win out the season.  The last game of the year will be against the Shock.  The winner will be #1, the loser #2.  That is, if the Wolverines could get by the Seminoles.  That question would be answered early as the Wolverines would score 6 TD’s in the 1st half to take a 42-0 half-time lead and coast to a 48-6 win.  Not only would the offense rack up 48 points and 378 total net yds of offense, but the defense would hold the Seminoles to just 46 total net yds.  The 1st half scoring for the Wolverines would come on a 31-yd Charlie Peterson to Joe Mapson pass (Whetman kick), a 24-yd Peterson to Mapson pass (Whetman kick), a 29-yd Peterson to Damon Greenberry pass (Whetman kick), a 25-yd Mike Culpepper run (Whetman kick), a 4-yd Culpepper run (kick blocked), and a 6-yd Peterson to Mapson kick (Culpepper run).  The 3rd period would be scoreless. At 10:36 of the 4th Peterson would hit Mapson for their 4th TD pass of the game (run failed).  The Seminoles would then get their only score of the game on a 97-yd kick-off return by Marcus Nelson (kick failed).  With the win, the Wolverines move to 5-1 on the season with games remaining against the Heat and Shock.  The Seminoles drop to 1-5 on the year and will possibly be looking at moving into the AA division next year.

The Wolverines would generate most of their offense with Charlie Peterson, the league’s top ranked passer, hitting 15 of 28 passes for 248 yds, 4 TD’s, and 1 INT.  Joe Mapson would catch 8 of these passes for 119 yds and all 4 TD passes. Tevita Ofahengaue would catch 2 passes for 59 yds.  Damon Greenberry would catch 2 passes for 43 yds and a TD.  The ground attack would net 118 yds with Jon Jenson rushing for 42 yds on 4 carries.  Mike Culpepper would gain 32 yds on 3 carries earning 2 TD and a 2-point PAT.  The Seminoles would gain 26 yds rushing on 11 carries.  The passing game would complete 4 of 19 passes for 37 total yds.  With 17 yds in sacks, the passing game would net only 20 yds.  Nate Cone would account for most of the rushing with 29 yds on 3 carries.  The only real offense that the Seminoles would generate would be the 97-yd kick-off return by Marcus Nelson.

The Wolverine defense would be led by Roger Shulze with 5 tackles and 2 sacks.  Darin Smith would also have 5 tackles while Matt Shoda would add 4 tackles.  Travis Scherzinger would record 5 tackles for the Seminoles while Harold Ragen would add 4 tackles and 1 int.  Justin Anderson would also register 4 tackles.

All teams will be off this week for the Memorial Day weekend.  The Wolverines will host the Heat on May 31st.  The Heat are coming off a big win against the Predators and can still make the play-offs by winning their last 2 games.  There will be a lot on the line in this game and it should prove to be a good game.  The Seminoles will entertain the 4-2 Missoula Phoenix.  The Phoenix need 1 win to make the play-offs.  If they win their last 2 games, they should host a 1st round play-off game.  Look for the Phoenix to win IF they can travel well.  This will be the longest road trip of the year for any team. The Wolverines would like to thank Gary Bird (GARY BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY) for taking such great pictures of our games. Gary is a great photographer who does so much more, so check out his site here by clicking the link above.
